Economic growth, foreign direct investment, economic stability and risk management were among matters addressed at a Panel Discussion last night at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown.

The Department of Economics at the UWI Cave Hill Campus hosted the discussion on the topic “Flight of the Bumble Bee – the Turning Point for a Delicate Economy”.

The three panelists were Director of Planning-Laura Anthony-Browne; Economist at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Ronald James and Senior Economist at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Shernnel Thompson.

The Moderator was Dr. Ankie Scott-Joseph of the Department of Economics at Cave Hill Campus.

In her presentation Director of Planning Mrs. Laura Anthony Browne said Governments should focus more on Foreign Direct Investment in order to generate more revenues.

Meanwhile, Economist at the Caribbean Development Bank, Ronald James said he also supports the call for more to be done to attract Foreign Direct Investment.

The goal of the panel discussion is to provide the public with access to the views, research and opinions of leading thinkers on economic issues in the Eastern Caribbean.

In addition to enhancing the knowledge of the public in relation to issues surrounding economic development, it is the hope of the Department that it can contribute to discussions around policy formulation in the Caribbean.
