St. Vincent and the Grenadines joins with the global community today in celebrating International Day for Disaster Reduction.

International Day for Disaster Reduction is held annually on October 13, and celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters.

This year’s Day focuses on Target B of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction, with the goal of reducing the number of affected people by disasters by 2030.

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is collaborating with the Goodwill Fishermen Co-op Society Limited and the Rose Place community to host an exhibition to celebrate International Day for Disaster Reduction.

This exhibition takes place at the Goodwill Fishermen Co-op Society Limited Gas Station at Rose Place from 1:30pm to 5:30pm today.

NEMO is also encouraging families to celebrate the day by sharing safety measures that they have in place to protect their loved ones in the event of an impact of hazard, emergency or disaster.
