The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard Service says the search for the six persons who went missing at sea on Sunday June 4, has been suspended.

The vessel called, Midnight Shadow, aboard which the six persons were, encountered difficulty while travelling from Canouan to Mustique at about 5pm, on June 4.

Those missing are Montgomery Hazel, age 56, of Chauncey who was Captain of the vessel; Claudia Williams, age 43, Ned Dasouza, age 46, Charmaine Dasouza, age 38, Sharon Simmons, age 43, of Richland Park; and Josianne John of Murray’s Village.

In an interview with WEFM News on Tuesday June 13th, Lieutenant Ralph Ragguette of the local Coast Guard said the decision to suspend the search was taken pending additional information on the missing persons as well the distress signal.

Luitenent Ragguette explained that the coast guard would have done everything in its power and went above and beyond in searching for the six persons and the vessel with the limited information it had but no trace have been found.

He stressed that having suspended the search does not mean that the case is closed, saying that crews would go out again if they receive any additional reliable information that can guide them in their search, or something was found that could possibly be linked to the missing vessel and its occupants.

During the search and rescue, a wide search area has been conducted between Mustique and Canouan. The Coast Guard was assisted in its search with aerial support from the Regional Security System (RSS), Mustique Airways and Kelly Glass. A contingent from Curacao also joined the search.
