Lornette ‘Fya Empress’ Nedd, the reigning 2017 Calypso Monarch, will be unable to indulge in St. Vincent and the Grenadines 2018 Carnival activities.

According to a statement, this decision is a direct result of a medical condition that was revealed on May 25, 2018 while in the USA.

Following the advice of her doctor, a major surgical procedure was performed on June 6 with her being discharged on June 9.

The procedure requires Nedd to be on bed-rest for 4-6 weeks with the possibility of additional days being added after her scheduled post-op appointment on June 29, 2018.

According to the statement, this operation has, in a huge way, hampered her preparations for the carnival season and as such she will be unavailable to participate in this year’s carnival activities.

As Fya Empress places her energy on recuperating, she extends her well wishes to the Carnival Development Committee, the Calypsonian Association, Vincentian artistes, patrons and supporters.

Chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Mr. Ricardo Adams said at a press conference this morning that Fya Empress will be missed from this year’s Carnival activities and wished her a speedy recovery.
