The Gender Affairs Division within the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Social Development, Youth and the Family is urging concern citizens to join with the Ministry, the Girls Guide Association and other individuals in promoting a “Say No To Violence” Against women and girls campaign.

Today September 25 is being observed as ORANGE DAY, a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding of the domestic violence phenomenon.

Polly Olliver, Co-ordinator at the Gender Affairs Division told WEFM News that many victims of domestic violence seem afraid to access the services available for them.

Mrs. Oliver explained that among the many services available to victims of domestic violence includes childcare, temporary housing, counselling and legal aid. She is therefore appealing to such persons to come forward and receive the vital help needed.

Mrs. Oliver said it is important that women and girls, who are victims of domestic abuse, make a report at the police station.

Mrs. Oliver said her Department is exploring every avenue in promoting a culture of non-violence here in light of what is taking place, and today’s observance of Orange Day is just another day to echo the call for “A Life Free of Violence.”
