Work is ongoing to construct a Hospitality and Maritime Training Institute here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Some 2.5 million EC dollars has been budgeted to go towards construction of the Institute, with $1.5million allocated for 2018 and $1million in 2019.

Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Cecil Mckie in responding to a question in Parliament last Thursday from the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) said that the Institute is being constructed to build capacity and expand the level and diversity of training available in the Hospitality Industry.

He said that thus far, several aspects of the facility have been completed, and work is expected to commence this year on construction of the laundry and storage facility.

The Tourism Minister explained that a Spa facility at the Hospitality and Maritime Training Institute has also been completed and is expected to become operational in September of this year, offering accredited online courses to persons in several regional countries.
