The Windward Islands under 19 Cricket Team registered a comfortable 6 wicket victory over Jamaica in their opening round match in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional under 19, 50 over Cricket Tournament taking place here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Yesterday August 16 at the Cumberland Playing Field, Jamaica batting first was dismissed for 159 in 48.5 overs with Carlos Brown making 70 and Dominik Samuels 25.

The wicket takers for the Windwards were, Johnnel Eugene with 3 for 21 in 10 overs, Shermill Lewis 3 for 29 in 8.5 overs and 1 wicket each to Micah Joseph, Lincoln Durand and Jeron Noel.

In response an opening partnership of 146 between new West Indies B team batsman Kimani Melius and Jahseon Alexander completely took the game away from Jamaica as the Windwards easily reached their target, finishing on 164 for 4 in 27.5 overs.

Meanwhile, Darren Bravo’s 94 not out off of 36 deliveries, ably supported by Brendon McCullum’s knock of 68 from 42 balls, saw the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) home by five wickets with one ball to spare.

Chasing the St. Lucia Stars’ substantial total of 212 runs from their allotted overs, the Knight Riders found themselves way behind the required run rate, when Bravo joined McCullum at the fall of the third wicket, with the total on 71 for 3, after 9.2 overs, and the Stars confident of ending their 14 game losing streak.

But it was not to be, as the pair decimated the Stars’ attack for 138 runs from 53 deliveries, with a barrage of sixes and boundaries.
