The St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) has allocated approximately $18 million dollars to the rehabilitation of its hydro plants at South Rivers, Cumberland and Richmond.

At a press conference yesterday at the VINLEC’s headquarters in Kingstown, Chief Executive Officer, Thornley Mayers said the rehabilitation and reconstruction work has been ongoing over the last few years and while some of the work was scheduled, some had to be carried out because of natural disasters like the flooding in December 2013.

He said greater consideration has been given to utilizing materials that would help mitigate the effects of some natural disasters.

Mr. Mayers said rehabilitation works on the South Rivers Hydro Plant is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016, and added that all the rehabilitation work is internally funded.
