The Chief Executive Officer of the St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) is reminding persons here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines of the need to conserve energy.

Speaking yesterday on the morning programme aired here on WEFM, Mr. Thornley Myers noted that many persons were pleased that the fuel surcharge rate applicable on their electricity bills for the month of January was 20.71 cents per unit, the lowest in 11 years.

Mr. Mayers said this decrease in the Fuel Surcharge Rate for January is primarily a reflection of fuel prices on the international market.

But he cautioned that while fuel prices are currently trending downwards, customers must be prepared to see an increase in the Fuel Surcharge Rate, if it is that the price of fuel increases in the coming months.

Mr. Myers also noted that there will be a significant decrease in the output from VINLEC’s Hydro plants during the current Dry Season.
