A Vincentian and two St. Lucians were arrested by Drug enforcement officials in St. Lucia during a drug operation conducted in Vieux Fort on the evening of Thursday March 3rd, 2016.

According to the St. Lucia News Online, reports are that the joint operation took place at Shanty Town Beach, where several pounds of marijuana were recovered by law enforcement officers on a go-fast vessel.

The Police Press Office said on Friday that four bales and five bags of compressed cannabis weighing 214 pounds were discovered and seized after it was jettisoned from the go-fast vessel. A further 3 pounds of cannabis was discovered on the person of one of the suspects.

The local go-fast vessel was about to land the controlled drugs into Saint Lucia.

During the drug operation, one of the three men sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and was taken to the hospital for treatment, while one person managed to escape.

The operation was carried out by members of the Drug Unit, the Special Services Unit (SSU) and the Marine Police around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016.

Charges are expected to be laid soon.
