The United States said on Tuesday that the decision to extradite eight Bahamians sends a “strong message” that the Perry Christie government and the courts are not prepared to tolerate crime.

The eight men were extradited on Monday to the United States on drug trafficking charges.

US Chargé d’ Affaires Lisa Johnson said “This extradition strikes a blow against organized crime and narcotics trafficking in The Bahamas, and added that the US commend this decision, which is evidence of the close and productive security partnership the United States shares with The Bahamas”.

The Diplomat said Washington will “continue to work in cooperation with The Bahamas to respond to the threats posed by transnational criminal organizations”.
