A joint investigation has been launched by the UN police force and police in Haiti following the fatal shooting of two female officers from the UN police force.

The officers, both from Rwanda, were found dead in their home on Wednesday.

In a statement today, the Rwanda National Police said the two female officers who were serving under the UN stabilization mission in Haiti, were shot dead inside their living quarters in Cap Haitien by unidentified assailants.

Sandra Honore, the UN special representative and head of the mission, expressed her regrets and sent condolences to the families of the deceased.
