Tropical Storm Kate has formed and is approaching the central Bahamas near 15 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds increased this morning and are near 45 miles per hour with additional strengthening expected.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the central and northwestern Bahamas.
