Trinidad and Tobago’s Chief Justice Ivor Archie will not be proceeding on the six-month sabbatical which was shrouded in controversy and uncertainty.

Instead he will take his normal vacation leave that he earned in the position as chief justice, and which he said now amounts to 35 weeks—the equivalent of almost nine months.

According to the Trinidad Express, Archie’s decision which came after the president’s seal of approval, has surprised some observers, but to others seemed inevitable, given the clear intention of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley that he, as head of the Government, had no intention of backing down on the sabbatical issue, which his Government believed lacked authority and the requisite approval.
