The issue of implementation of government Public Sector investment programmes continues to be an on-going challenge for the government, according to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

Speaking at news conference last Tuesday January 2, 2018, Dr. Gonsalves said that there is a lot of money that the government has negotiated; and finance agreements have been signed, however to get some of the technical work coming out from the requisite technical persons in a timely manner is difficult.

The Prime Minister said he recently had a meeting with all the professional people in the Ministry of Works on this matter.

He acknowledged that while there was more Capital expenditure by the government in 2017 when compared to in 2016, it is not enough, given the amount of grants and soft loans available to be spent on various programmes locally.

Prime Minister Gonsalves went on to make a plea publicly to persons employed within the Public Service who are tardy in carrying out their duties, to up their game, so that projects can be dealt with and implemented more speedily.
