The 37th annual meeting of the council of Ministers of the Regional Security System – convened this morning with a special opening ceremony at the beachcomber’s hotel.

The opening ceremony witnessed the gathering of the Prime Ministers of St. Kitts and Nevis and Barbados, heads of regional institutions and Military and Police Officers from the RSS Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada and St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who are expected to address a number of critical regional security issues.

Delivering feature address, Chairman of the Regional Security System (RSS) Council of Ministers and this country’s Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves in his remarks said it is imperative that the respective RSS agencies collaborate with other countries – in order to address various challenges of safety within the region.

RSS Director Errington Shurland in his opening remarks, said several of the programs delivered are facilitated with the kind assistance of their international development partners.

Mr. Shurland said during the past year, the RSS was able to deliver 48 training courses to approximately 1, 791 persons through such partnerships.

And Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Motley, said the council of security plays a pivotal role within CARICOM.

The Regional Security System Security Chief’s which comprises of Commissioners of Police and Heads of the Defence Forces in the RSS Member States will convene their annual meeting at the same venue under the chairmanship of Mr. Colin John, Commissioner of Police of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
