St. Vincent and the Grenadines through the Information Technology Services Division, ITSD, commenced a “Girls in ICT Workshop” yesterday, at the E-Government Center as part of activities to commemorate International Girl’s in ICT Day 2018, which will be celebrated this Thursday April 26, 2018.

The workshop which is being done in collaboration with the Ministry of National Mobilization, Social Development, Family, Gender Affairs, Persons with Disabilities and Youth has enrolled 24 participants, drawn from the various empowerment programs of the Ministry namely, the Single Parents Program, the Teen Mother’s Program, the Youth Empowerment Program and the Social Protection Program.

In her remarks, Assistant Coordinator in the Gender Affairs Division in the Ministry of National Mobilization, Lafleur Quammie-Harry said the Ministry is pleased to collaborate with the ITSD for a second year to commemorate Girls in ICT Day.

Mrs. Quammie-Harry said the main thrust of the workshop is to introduce girls and young women to ICT career opportunities and to involve them in hands-on ICT creation workshop. She urged the participants to actively participate in the program and to use the knowledge gained to assist their children with their academics and to become gainfully employed.

The Girls in ICT Workshop is being held under the theme “expanding horizons, changing attitudes” and during the course of the week which runs from April 23- 27, participants will be trained in Document Preparation, Windows and File Management, Communication, Social Marketing, Web Designing, Data Storage, Budgeting, Internet Pros and Cons and Photography.

The Training Workshop ends Friday afternoon with a closing ceremony at the National Insurance Services (NIS) Conference Room.
