The government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has denounced the comment made by US President Donald Trump last Thursday during an Oval Office meeting, in which he reportedly used a repulsive and derogatory remark to refer to Haiti, El Salvador and African countries.

Addressing reporters at a news conference this morning, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves read portions of a statement released by CARICOM on the weekend in which the 15 member grouping condemned in the strongest terms, the unenlightened views reportedly expressed by president Trump.

Dr. Gonsalves said St. Vincent and the Grenadines endorses the CARICOM statement.

He highlighted some accomplishments of Haiti, which he described as being the oldest democracy in the Western Hemisphere.

Prime Minister Gonsalves said that denouncing President Trump is the easiest thing to do.

He said the criticism of Donald Trump should be used as a teaching moment, and impel us to arm ourselves with knowledge, and to use that knowledge to uplift ourselves.
