St. Vincent and the Grenadines is said to be among the leaders in the solar PV transition effort in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

This is according to Jason LaCorbinière, Programme Specialist for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, speaking at a ceremony on Tuesday May 2, to launch the Belle Isle Correctional Facility’s solar photovoltaic (PV) system.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Mr. Stephen O’Malley, Mr. LaCorbinière mentioned that the Government’s thrust to increase solar PV use across St. Vincent and the Grenadines will create sustainable cities and communities.

He added that the UNDP is pleased to be a partner in this ambitious project through the PACES project and will continue to support SVG’s attempts to reduce carbon emission rates over the coming years.
