Hard work is being made to restore the once upon a time prosperous Coconut industry in St. Vincent and the Grenadines following global recognition of its many health benefits.

According to the National Broadcasting Co-operation, the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) is therefore spearheading a National Coconut Replanting programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.

Chairperson of the National Stakeholders Platform in regards to Coconuts, Bernadette Warren, said the programme seeks to position local farmers to take advantage of this lucrative industry, noting that the coconut is a very versatile crop with a wide range of opportunities.

Miss Warren said the once vibrant coconut industry is poised for a major comeback and the Ministry of Agriculture will be operating a Coconut booth at the Everything Vincy Expo this independence weekend, to provide information on the replanting programme.
