Activities are being held today, as this nation remembers and pays honor to the memory of the seven students who died one year ago in the tragic accident at Rock Gutter.

The children died on January 12th, 2015 after the passenger van in which they were travelling went over an embankment and into the sea at Rock Gutter, an uninhabited area between the communities of Fancy and Owia.

The events being held today to honour the memory of the students include a wreath-laying ceremony that was scheduled to begin 11:30 this morning at Rock Gutter, for two of the students, Simonique Ballantyne and Chanstacia Stay, whose bodies were never recovered.

This will be followed by a motorcade ending at the Fancy Cemetery, where wreaths will be laid for the five students, Anique Alexander; Racquel Ashton; Jamal and Jamalie Edwards; and Glenroy Michael whose bodies were recovered and buried there.

At 2:00pm, a Memorial Service will be held at the Fancy Playing Field, with tributes to be made by Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves; Opposition Leader, Hon. Arnhim Eustace; Parliamentary Representative for North Windward Constituency, Hon. Montgomery Daniel; the Ministry of Education and representatives of North Union Secondary, Georgetown Secondary and the St. Vincent Grammar School.
