Minister of Transport and Works, Julian Francis, says the government has repaired or constructed a significant amount of bridges since assuming office in 2001.

He was speaking at yesterday’s opening of the new Cumberland Bridge which was constructed at a cost of five million US dollars, replacing a 40-year-old temporary bridge that was damaged by storms in recent years.

Minister Francis said the increased frequency of bridge construction comes as a result of the impact of climate change and its related events.

Minister Francis said the severity of the damage caused to the various bridges by recent storms is making it increasingly difficult to replace the infrastructure.
