Cristiano Ronaldo powered home a fourth-minute header to give Portugal a 1-Nil World Cup victory over Morocco that took them top of Group B and meant the North African side became the first to be eliminated from the tournament.

Ronaldo’s fourth goal of Russia 2018, following his hat-trick in the 3-3 draw with Spain, took the European champions to four points today, and extended his lead as the top scorer in Russia in the race for the Golden Boot.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal was suspended for one Test match and fined 100 percent of his match fee after he was found guilty of altering the condition of the ball during the just concluded second Test match against the West Indies.

The punishment was handed down yesterday by Javagal Srinath of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and means Chandimal will miss the final day-night Test match at Kensington Oval in Barbados which begins on Saturday.

Additionally, Sri Lankan coach and manager were also charged for their involvement in the Sri Lankan cricket team’s refusal to take to the field at the start of Saturday’s play, causing a two-hour delay in the start of play.
