Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has spoken out publicly about an alleged incident of assault involving a female US Peace Corp volunteer here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

In a statement delivered at a media briefing this morning, the Prime Minister said the 70 year-old Peace Corp volunteer, who has not been named, reported that the alleged incident occurred about 7:30am on Monday August 20, 2018 in the area outside of the Leeward Bus terminal.

He said the woman had arrived here on August 16, 2018 after having completed a-five-week Peace Corp training in St. Lucia.

The Prime Minister said the Peace Corp volunteer described the two alleged assailants as being of Middle Eastern descent.

Dr. Gonsalves said local law enforcement authorities are continuing investigations into this alleged incident and are collaborating with the relevant officials at the US Embassy in Barbados.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Colin John said a sketch of the alleged perpetrators has been made available and the police are seeking the cooperation of the public in identifying the assailants.
