Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has responded to a letter written to him by Opposition Leader, Godwin Friday, on the subject of public accountability.

In the letter dated May 8, 2017, addressed to Mr. Friday, Prime Minister Gonsalves said that a letter he received from the opposition leader, dated May 2, 2017, “is stuffed with self serving political polemics, irrelevancies, inaccuracies and plain falsehood.”

The Prime Minister said he enclosed in his response a copy of an article, authored by him, and which was published in the Searchlight newspaper of Friday May 5, 2017, under the rubric ‘Argyle International Airport: Accountability Assure.’

Dr. Gonsalves pointed out in his letter that the Unity Labour Party (ULP) which he has headed since March 29, 2001, has placed the issue of public accountability, transparency, and good governance at the center of its praxis, particularly in respect of the appropriation and expenditure of public monies.

He noted that governments and agencies, internationally, have so recognized this and have applauded the government accordingly.
