Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is among regional leaders attending the 29th Inter-Sessional meeting of Caricom Heads of Government in Haiti.

The summit takes place from today February 26 to tomorrow February 27.

Addressing the Opening Session of the 29th Inter-sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government at the Marriott Hotel, in Port-au-Prince, Immediate-past Chairman, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell of Grenada said the people of Haiti has taught us phenomenal lessons in resilience.

Meanwhile, CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque in his remarks said that the impact faced by regional countries from the blacklisting actions of international countries is deleterious to the economic prospects and social progress of CARICOM states.

Among the range of pressing issues to be deliberated upon by the regional Heads of Government includes: building a climate-resilient Region following the devastation of the 2017 hurricane season, regional security, the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), regional transportation, the tourism industry, the challenges from the blacklisting actions and de-risking strategies of more developed countries and global banks.

Prime Minister Gonsalves’ delegation includes Allan Alexander-Director of the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit and Senator Carlos James.

From Haiti Dr. Gonsalves will travel to Suriname for an official visit.
