Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves has refuted claims by Members and supporters of the New Democratic Party (NDP) that he influenced the petition ruling, handed down last week by Acting High court Judge, Justice Stanley John.

The accusations came following the High Court’s Ruling on Thursday March 21st, when it ruled in favor of the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, in the petitions case that challenged the outcome of the vote in two constituencies in the December 2015 General Elections.

Speaking on WE FM on Friday March 22nd, Dr. Gonsalves said he was unaware of who the judge was.

He added that if the NDP is not satisfied with the Judge’s ruling, it is welcomed to appeal the petition.

In reference to last Thursday’s Protest action, Dr. Gonsalves said there was no real basis for the main opposition New Democratic Party (NDP). To protest, as compared to the protest lead by the ruling ULP Administration in 2000, which he noted was for a legitimate reason, where the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines revolted against the then NDP Government, leading to its victory in 2001.
