The St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) is encouraging members of the public to contact the company about reports of trees in close proximity to power lines that are in need of trimming.

VINLEC is authorized to trim/prune/cut trees including palms and shrubs which disrupt electric power distribution.

If trees do not pose a danger to the electricity lines it is the responsibility of the owner to have the trees trimmed.

Communications Officer at VINLEC, Tamara Job-Sprott says tree trimming is especially important during the hurricane season.

Mrs. Job-Sprott noted that in addition to having overhanging trees trimmed households should also clear debris around their home and secure galvanize on roofs as part of their preparations in event of a storm impacting this country.
