Leader of the Opposition and President of the New Democratic Party (NDP) Dr. Godwin Friday departed the state on Saturday, February 17, 2018 to travel to Salamanca and Madrid Spain for the International Democrat Union (IDU) Party Leaders Meeting 2018.

Dr. Friday will participate in this important meeting in his capacity as president of the NDP and Vice Chair of the Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU) with responsibilities for Policy and External Affairs.

The event will be hosted by “Partido Popular” in Spain where matters of global peace and security, economic development and freedom and democracy will be discussed.

Speaking on the importance of this event, Dr. Friday noted that it is significant for the Caribbean to be represented at such high level meetings where opportunities to address issues such as climate change and sustainable development are made possible.

The International Democrat Union (IDU) is a working association of over 80 political parties worldwide.

St. Clair Leacock, Vice President and Member of Parliament for Central Kingstown will act as President in the absence of Dr. Friday.

Dr. Friday will return to St. Vincent and the Grenadines on February 21, 2018.
