The electoral observation mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) which monitored the December 9th general elections here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has highlighted the civic spirit of the population shown in peaceful and successful elections.

In presenting the preliminary report at a press conference yesterday at Grenadine House at Kingstown Park, the OAS Chief of mission, Jacinth Henry-Martin, applauded the work of the presiding officers, poll clerks, party agents and police in particular.

She also urged that the established electoral procedures be utilized to address any differences or disputes that may arise following the election.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Henry-Martin outlined several recommendations including the need for implementation of a continuous update of the voter’s list, the implementation of campaign finance regulations, and that efforts be made to promote women’s participation in the political process, among other issues.
