A new medical transportation business was officially opened here last Friday October 13, 2017.

Island-Wide Medical Transportation Services Inc. (IMTS) is a Non-Emergency Wheelchair accessed Van and Non Ambulance Stretcher Transportation service.

IMTS is committed to provide safe and reliable services to clients going to and from their destination.

It is providing non-emergency transportation “NEMT” services for patients requiring transportation to and or from a medical facility for appointments and who does not require medical monitoring by an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Each van is equipped with a hydraulic lift that loads the patient into the unit while they remain seated in their wheelchair.

The wheelchair vans can also accommodate additional passengers who are not confined to a wheelchair and are able to ambulate without assistance.

All vans are equipped with first aid kit and blood pressure monitor in the event of an unforeseen medical emergency while en-route.

Proprietor of Island-Wide Medical Transportation Services Inc. Mr. Andre Bailey speaking at the opening ceremony said that after seeing the challenges faced by many persons including the elderly and disabled in getting to and from medical facilities for appointments he decided to invest in establishing a business that provides non-emergency “NEMT” medical transportation services.

Mr. Bailey said that at present they will be offering medical transportation service to persons in the district areas of Marriaqua, Calliaqua and Kingstown. He said that service to other areas such as Cedars, Georgetown and Pembroke will be provided in the coming months.

Mr. Bailey said that currently they have one van with another expected in about two weeks. He said that over the next six months Island-Wide Medical Transportation Services is expected to have a fleet of four vehicles.
