Employers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are being called upon to do more to ensure the safety and health of their employees.

This issue was brought to the fore at a Breakfast seminar hosted last Friday April 28, 2017, by Jaric St. Vincent Limited, to coincide with World Day of Safety and Health at Work.

Toney Regisford, Executive Director of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce said there are some businesses here that are very serious about the health and safety of workers and have implemented measures in this regard.

But he said there is a need for more businesses to take the safety and health issues at the workplace very seriously.

Meanwhile, Minister of Labour, Camillio Gonsalves in delivering the feature address, noted that annually 320 million accidents occur on the job, and the economic burden resulting from poor operational health and safety practices is estimated by economists to be 4% of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Minister Gonsalves said the Draft Occupational Safety and Health Bill is currently being reviewed to address workers safety in this country.
