Opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), politician Ben Exeter, was on Thursday charged with carrying an offensive weapon without lawful authority.

It is reportedly the fourth charge laid against Exeter, who was the NDP candidate for Central Leeward in the December 9th, 2015 general election.

The charges stem from his arrest on December 29th in Kingstown where the ceremonial opening of the first session of the 10th Parliament was taking place.

According to I-Witness News, Kay-Bacchus Browne, one of Mr. Exeter’s lawyer’s, described the charge as “ridiculous.”

She reportedly accused the police of acting after Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said last week that it is an offence to carry a licensed firearm to a public meeting.

Mr. Exeter is due back in court on January 25th, 2016.
