The St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Wages Councils was officially launched on Thursday March 31st 2016 at a ceremony at the Peace Memorial Hall.

The Councils are set up to make recommendations to Cabinet on matters related to minimum wages, hours of work and conditions of employment for various categories of workers in the State.

Speaking at the ceremony, Morine Williams, Permanent Secretary Acting in the Ministry of Economic Planning, Sustainable Development, Industry, Information and Labour, said the Councils encompasses 7 areas including Agricultural, Domestic, Hotel, Industrial and Security workers, as well as Office of Professionals and Shop Assistants.

Chairman of the Wages Councils, Mr. Lloyd Small in his remarks said the Councils will be involved in discussions and consultations throughout the state, on the sensitive issue of minimum wages.
