“There is the need for more attention to be paid to the overall issues surrounding road safety and regulations relating to road safety,” says Government Senator, Carlos James.

In tabling a Motion on Transport for School Children in Parliament on Friday September 1, 2017, Senator James noted that while there have been amendments to the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, there is a need for a more modern approach in dealing with these regulations.

He suggested that consideration be given to introducing modern techniques such as use of breathalyzer machines and radar speed gun devices to enable Traffic Officers to be able to test blood and alcohol content of drivers and to gauge if a person is driving beyond the required speed limit.

Senator James said there is also a need for modern technologies to be used in assessing whether or not the noise level, emanating from radios or other music devices, in motor vehicles is beyond that stipulated in the Laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
