Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says there is a need for more female domestic workers here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to get registered with the National Insurance Services (NIS).

According to the Prime Minister statistics from the NIS reveal that only about six hundred and fifty persons who work in households are registered at the NIS.

Dr. Gonsalves noted that as this nation celebrates International Women’s Day, greater attention needs to be paid to addressing this important issue.

He is encouraging domestic workers to check the NIS to make sure that they are registered with that social security protection agency.

The Prime Minister said that domestic work, a field dominated by females, is one category of work that is underrepresented in the active registrants at the NIS.
