A number of activities have been planned in the lead up to the celebration of Fisherman’s Day on Monday May 21, Whit Monday.

Chairman of Fisherman’s Day Committee, Winfield Tannis Abbott said the each Fisheries Cooperative has been allotted one week in the month of activities to host fish nights, National Insurance Service (NIS) membership drives, school competitions and other events.

Speaking on Friday April 27 at a ceremony to officially launch the 2018 Fisherman’s Day month of activities, Mr. Tannis Abbott expressed an appeal for the Vincent public to support the various activities.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is “From Our Ridges into the High seas, Our Nation We Feed” and the slogan is “Cleaner Reef, Healthy Fish To Eat”.

Meanwhile, Chief Fisheries Officer, Jennifer Cruickshank Howard in her remarks at the ceremony said that Fisheries Department has been collaborating with the relevant Ministries, agencies and institutions both locally and regionally to help protect our marine resources.
