The Modern Medical Complex being constructed at Georgetown on the Windward side of the island is scheduled to be completed later this year.

Word of this came from Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves during his remarks at a ceremony held at Colonarie on Sunday evening to celebrate 23 years since he has been serving as a Parliamentarian here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Prime Minister said he recently granted approval for the final one million dollars for the completion of the facility, which is being constructed as part of reforms being done to improve the local health sector.

“More will be done as the Medical Complex in Georgetown opens later this year, thank God. In fact, I just gave the approval for the final one million dollars for the completion of it with some further equipment and some small things which need to be done at the Modern Medical Complex in Georgetown,” Dr. Gonsalves said as he outlined several development projects his administration is planning to undertake.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said that during this week he will be holding meetings pertaining to the development of the New City at Arnos Vale now that E.T. Joshua Airport has been decommissioned. He will also meet with the investors for the National Geothermal Project.

Dr. Gonsalves said that already 8 acres of land at Arnos Vale has been identified for the construction of a 130 bed Acute Referral Hospital. He said the process for the designs are currently on going and he hopes that in two years time he can get all the designs along with the extent of the equipment required and the price tag, so he can begin souring the money to construct the facility.

Dr. Gonsalves was first elected as Parliamentary representative for North Central Windward on February 21, 1994.
