Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has been charged with assault and criminal mischief by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) following an incident at an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) media day at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

The former two-weight champion was one of a group alleged to have vandalized a bus containing rival fighters, the UFC said.

The Irishman turned himself into police custody at 9pm on Thursday and was due to appear at a Brooklyn Criminal Court this morning.

“McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault and one of criminal mischief,” a NYPD spokesperson told BBC Sport.

The UFC says McGregor along with fellow fighter Artem Lobov – accompanied by more than a “dozen individuals” – attacked the bus, resulting in two fighters being injured.
