The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment has reiterated its call for persons to protect themselves from mosquito bites and eliminate mosquito breeding sites within their environs following the confirmation on Tuesday of one case of the Zika Virus here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The individual who tested positive for the virus is a 34 year old female resident of Union Island.

Epidemiologist in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rosmond Adams speaking at a media conference yesterday at the Ministry’s conference room said that of 12 samples which were sent to the Caribbean Regional Public Health Agency (CARPHA) for testing, only one tested positive for the Zika virus, and the woman has since fully recovered.

Dr. Adams said the woman is not reported to have had any history of recent travel.
