The Ministry of Health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the department for international development is ready to commence phase 2 of the SMART Health Care Facilities in the Eastern Caribbean Project.

On Thursday August 31, the Ministry, the project supporting partners, and stakeholders held a technical and kick off meetings to officially commence work at the Chateaubelair Hospital.

At the meeting, PAHO also introduced the Contractor for the project, FRANCO construction, and conditions for the implementation of the project.

Phase Two of the SMART Health Care Facilities in the Eastern Caribbean Project officially commenced on June 10, 2015 and will be implemented in the four Windward Islands, namely Grenada, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica, and three other countries, Jamaica, Guyana, and Belize over a period of five years to June 2020.

The project is being financially supported by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) and implemented through PAHO’s Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief Department in partnership with the Ministry of Health in each target country.

On Friday September 1 and Saturday September 2, 2017 the Ministry also convened town hall meetings in Union island and Mayreau respectively where resident had an opportunity to give input on the retrofitting of the Union island Hospital and the Mayreau health centre.
