The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce this morning distributed bursaries to 78 selected financially disadvantaged school children across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The bursaries valued $350 each, comes from the Children in Need Fund established in 2005 by His Excellency Ceino Lewis, SVG’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK).

Mrs. Cassandra Browne-Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in addressing the ceremony for the disbursement of bursaries to the children held at the Ministry’s Conference Room said this is the 12th such ceremony for disbursement of bursaries to school children here.

She said the fund is sustained through monetary donations from the Vincentian Diaspora in the UK, and expressed hope that this initiative will continue.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sir Louis Straker said the bursaries are being given to five needy school children from each of the fifteen constituencies.

He urged the parents to use the funds for the benefit of the children.
