The Ministry of Education is considering the possibility of “phasing out” the sale of carbonated drinks in and around schools, here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Minister of Education, St. Clair Prince, speaking in Parliament last Thursday April 6, 2017, in response to a question from an Opposition Senator, said his Ministry does not condone the consumption of carbonated drinks by students, and encourage students to practice healthy lifestyles.

Minister Prince said the government will not at this time move to implement an immediate ban of the sale and provision of soft drinks in and around all Primary and Secondary schools, but noted that a consultative process to discourage the consumption of carbonated drinks in schools and homes must begin at the national level.

Meanwhile, Minister Prince also stated that the Ministry of Education will continue to encourage healthy eating in schools.
