Minister of Education, St. Clair Prince, has expressed gratitude to the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their continuous support towards the development of education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

He made the statement while speaking at a ceremony at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown yesterday where the Taiwanese Human Resource Development Programme and the Ministry of Education, handed out bursaries to students from 38 schools in Kingstown and its environs.

Minister Prince said that Taiwan has done a tremendous job for students.

He urged parents to use the monies wisely by ensuring that it goes towards students’ academic needs and reminded parents to become more proactive in their children’s education.

The Education Minister further encouraged parents to instill punctuality and proper deportment in their children.

He said parents should make it a habit to visit schools from time to time, so that they can track their children’s progress, keeping in mind the necessary protocols. Parents should not only visit schools to voice disagreements, Prince admonished.

Minister Prince also urged teachers to be even more productive in their classrooms, noting that any shortchanging in the classroom will negatively affect the children.
