Kay Bacchus-Baptiste was sworn in today as a Senator for the main opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) in the House of Assembly.
Mrs. Bacchus-Baptiste replaces Dr. Julian Ferdinand as Senator in the House of Assembly.
In congratulating Mrs. Bacchus-Baptiste, this morning, during the start of the Third Session of the Tenth Parliament, Opposition Leader Dr. Godwin Friday, said when he asked Mrs. Bacchus-Baptiste to become a Senator, she readily accepted and viewed it as an opportunity to continue to serve the people of this country.
Dr. Friday expressed confidence that Mrs. Bacchus-Baptiste will do a wonderful job in her role as a senator in the House of Assembly, and said he looks forward to working along with her.
Meanwhile, Senator Bacchus-Baptiste expressed appreciation to the legislators for welcoming her to the House of Assembly, and promises to bring a voice to the voiceless, and hope to the hopeless.
