Mardi Gras 2017, one of the major highlights of Vincy Mas, will be taken directly to the streets of Kingstown this year, with judging of the Mas Bands to be done in Little Tokyo.
Chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), Ricardo Adams says the event will be held under the theme “Destination Tokyo”.
According to the CDC Chairman over the years the attendance by patrons at the Mardi Gras judging in Victoria Park has declined, therefore following discussions with the various Mas Bands, it was agreed that this year the event will be taken to the streets in an effort to reduce the bottle neck that often occurs at Victoria Park, when the Mas Bands gather to parade on stage.
He said about 14 Mas Bands are expected to be judged as part of this year’s Mardi Gras.
Mr. Adams said that apart from the judging in Little Tokyo, there will also be the uptown judging for Mardi Gras.
