Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has instructed Horace Dalley, the new minister of health, to correct the “shortcomings in the health sector”.

Simpson Miller made the disclosure during her address to the country in a national radio and television broadcast on Sunday.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Simpson Miller said Dalley has assured her that his first order of business will be to strengthen the system of health care delivery, to eliminate the deaths of babies or adults from causes such as bacterial outbreaks.

The prime minister said the Government feels the anguish of the mothers and fathers who lost their babies in the recent outbreak of bacteria at the Cornwall Regional Hospital and University Hospital of the West Indies.
