Minister of State, Joseph Harmon yesterday said that the Guyana Government has mandated the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to ramp up checks and inspections of aircraft and facilities following another fatal plane crash yesterday.

A statement from the Ministry of the Presidency expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of Captain Imran Khan who perished earlier yesterday after the Air Services Limited Cessna 206 aircraft he was operating crashed in Region Eight. He was the only person on board.

Harmon noted that it was the third plane crash in less than two months and the Government was deeply concerned.

Over the past month, there were two accidents involving small planes in the area. One of those accidents resulted in the death of a pilot, while the other left the pilot seriously injured. Investigations into both of those incidents are ongoing.
