Iana Y. R. Ferguson, a student of the St. Vincent Girl’s High School is the top student for St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the 2017 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination, having achieved 19 subject passes including 18 Grade Ones and one Grade Two.

This year’s other outstanding results include three students who obtained 13 subject passes, four students who gained 12 subject passes and 31 students who gained 11 subject passes.

According to the Ministry of Education, 2,674 candidates were registered for the May/June 2017 CSEC examinations. Of these 1,093 were private candidates and 1,581 were school candidates.

There were 1,563 school candidates sitting 10,982 subject entries in 33 subject areas from 26 secondary schools.

Preliminary results indicate that approximately 73.25% of the subject entries were awarded Grades 1-3. This is a decrease from the corresponding period in 2016 when the Grades 1-3 passes was 74.66% and 75.15% in 2015.

This year, 11.40% of the passes were at Grade 1 Level, 27.33% at Grade Two and 34.52% at Grade Three. Last year’s figures were 12.30% at Grade 1, 28.52% at Grade Two and 33.84% at Grade Three.
