Former Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, now leader of the opposition following her defeat at the polls in the general election on September 7th, is facing a stiff challenge to her leadership of the United National Congress (UNC) from former minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal.

Moonilal recently resigned as opposition chief whip in order to contest the party leadership at its forthcoming convention on December 5th.

According to Caribbean News Now, Moonilal has justified his challenge on the grounds that there has been unrest among members of the UNC who have been clamouring for change.

Former education minister Dr. Tim Gopeesingh is also expected to announce his bid for the chairmanship of the party on Moonilal’s slate.
